Ok so I know the green lanterns lantern is based on an old school nautical style lantern. Does anyone know the name or have an image of what it was based on?

The basic style is a hurricane lantern.
However, railroads needed directional beams and various colors. So there were railroad lanterns with a metal body and glass lenses of several colors, notably red and green. Some railroad lanterns look a lot like the Lantern Battery, some even more than the below image.

The original Green Lantern was created by young struggling artist Martin Nodell, who was inspired by the sight of a New York Subway employee waving a red lantern to stop a train for track work and a green lantern once the track was clear. With the name in hand and borrowing heavily from the story of Aladdin (originally, Alan Scott was named Alan Ladd until a conflict arose regarding the actor of the same name), Nodell created a mystical crimefighter who got his powers from the flame of a strange lamp.
