The Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the Chinese New Year. The start of the Chinese New Year in 2009 will be the 26th of January. The Lantern Festival should not be mistaken with the Mid Fall Festival that is also called the Lantern Festival in many parts of Singapore and Malaysia. The Lantern Festival is a time when little kids go out in the night carrying their lanterns to the temples. These lanterns are usually made of paper and riddles are written on these lanterns, the children find joy in trying to solve theses riddles.
The Chinese Lantern Festival is also called as the Little New Year as it brings a close to the Chinese New Year celebrations that would have begun 15 days ago. Modern day lanterns come in a myriad of complex and colorful designs. Some are even fashioned in the shape of animals. There are numerous attractive lanterns that are on display lighting up the night sky with their colorful lights that emanate from within. One lantern that is worth mentioning here is the Dragon Pole lantern. This lantern is shaped in the form of a golden dragon, and spills off fireworks from its mouth, the Dragon Pole lantern coils up a twenty seven meter high pole.
A wonderful and relishing experience, the festival is well worth the stay, especially if one has arrived to celebrate or view the Chinese New Year celebrations. Macau is a wonderful place to stay and view this magnificent festival. Macau is a Special administrative Region of China; they have their own government and is a blend of the east and west.
If one is looking for a luxury hotel in Macau or even a resort hotel Macau, a good choice would be the Sand Macau Resort Hotel.
