How does one go about setting up a Lumogaz 270 gas camping lantern?

Securing the lantern to the Butane/Propane bottle was easy enough, but I have no idea how to light the thing as every time I try lighting it with a match or lighter I just get a big initial burst of flame (which singes my hand!) and it blows itself out. Plus I have no idea what to do with the mantle?? Please help, the bast’d didn’t come with any instructions!

      The replacement mantles.
