Does anyone know how to burn a wax lantern candle?

We bought it at Target and it is shaped like a pot with a small pillar candle inside. Both the pillar candle and the lantern on the inside are made u of wax. The pillar candle on the inside has a long (5 inch) wick. We are confused as to how this works. There are no directions of use. Any tips?
