My brother is getting married in Greece in a few weeks and I would love to take some chinese fire lanterns to let of on the night of the wedding, is it ok to put these in my suitcase and let them go by the sea?
Thankyou! The ones I have are paper ones, with the black peice of card/paper which you light.

The paper lantern part will be no problem.

The issue will be the part that creates the flame. If it is just a candle, then that will probably be OK - candles are not mentioned as being prohibited.

If the flame part is anything else - like a can of flammable paste or gel (like Sterno) or anything else that is similar, then I think it is likely that it will be confiscated during the TSA inspection of your bags.

In any case, if you can pack the lantern part and the candles - if that is what is used - separately, it might be useful. If it is just candles, it also may be possible to purchase some at your destination and avoid the inspection issues entirely.

Hope it is a great celebration - with or without the lanterns.
