Are flying lanterns harmful to ocean life?

June 21st, 2010 | by admin |
Mrn asked:

I saw a video of a wedding with flying lanterns. We would like to do something similar on the beach. I’ve read that they float back to earth up to 1,000 yards away. They are biodegradable but I was wondering if anyone knows if they would be harmful to ocean life if they landed in the sea? They are made of rice paper and bamboo. Thanks.
